No hay texto; alguna palabra utilizada como onomatopeya y poco más para agarrar un sentido; tebeo analfabeto para lector imaginativo. Lo mismo pasa con la pintura tardía de Philip Guston. Los elementos figurativos reconocibles son símbolos para interpretar. Mientras pinta zapatos, bombilla, reloj y pitillos, todo va bien. Pero, cuando dibuja capuchones del Ku Klux Klan, los comisarios se alarman temerosos de una mala interpretación. La gran retrospectiva actual emprendida entre Washington, Boston, Houston y Londres se inauguró con un año de retraso. Las instituciones consideraron inoportuno enseñar muñecos del KKK en Washington, justo después del asalto al capitolio. En el imaginario Gustoniano, los encapuchados simbolizan el mal blanco que llevamos dentro, de aquí el autorretrato con capirote, inoportuna confesión del sentido de culpa. Por suerte estas páginas no serán interpretadas más que como un homenaje al pintor favorito de Art Spiegleman.

Pour le moment il dessine de chouettes semelles et des capuches, puis viendra l'heure de l'abstraction toujours en rouge et rose avant de filter avec le surréalisme (là j'attends pas grand chose), pour finir dans le mur à Morelia avec Siqueiros.
